Travel Vaccinations

The following travel vaccines are available free on the NHS from your GP surgery:

Our Practice Nurses will give advice on the health aspects of travel, malaria prevention, and give, or advice on, any other vaccinations necessary which can be obtained privately.  Please make an appointment with one of our practice nurses.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  – at least 6 weeks before you travel – as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire to give the nurses as much information as possible ahead of your appointment.

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:

Coil fitting clinics

Coil fitting is available at the surgery and this is carried out by Dr Lisa Moore. Patients would need and appointment with any GP before being listed for this procedure. Family planning and contraceptive services are also available via the Wirral Sexual Health Service https://www.sexualhealthwirral.nhs.uk/ or by calling 0300 123 5474

Minor Surgery

Minor operations such as removal of moles and skin tags are carried out at the surgery. Minor surgery is performed by Dr Jones. Please make an appointment with Dr Jones if you wish to be assessed for this.

Joint injections

We offer joint injections to provide short term pain relief for some musculoskeletal conditions.

At Civic Medical Centre we offer the following joint injections:

  • Shoulder injections (for osteoarthritis, adhesive capsulitis, and rotator cuff injuries).
  • Acromioclavicular joint injections (for osteoarthritis).
  • First carpometacarpal joint (base of thumb) injections (for osteoarthritis).
  • Trigger finger injections.
  • Knee injections (for osteoarthritis).

If your problem is not in one of these joints, please speak to the clinician who saw you to consider other options to manage the joint pain.

Joint injections are not recommended for long term pain syndromes. They are only recommended for osteoarthritis when other standard pain relief has not provided benefit, and to support therapeutic exercise (physiotherapy).  This means that joint injections should only be considered once someone has tried standard pain relief and physiotherapy, and not as an alternative to these.

Wellbeing Practitioners

We also have a team of Wellbeing and Mental Health Practitioners who work across our local practices and can offer advice and support to our patients. Please see staff section for further details and how you can access their support.
